Walking tour is a historic view

In 1851, Rock Hill was but a railway stop between Columbia and Charlotte.

But by 1929, it was filled with businesses and artisans and had its own opera house and college.

Beginning Saturday, residents and visitors can take a step back in time by taking the Old Town Historic Walking Tour.

Winthrop moves up on 'America's Best College' list

Winthrop University has moved up one spot in the south's top 10 public universities in the U.S. News & World Report's 2012 edition of "America's Best Colleges."

This year, the university placed seventh, a spot higher than 2010's ranking among fellow Southern public institutions granting bachelor's and master's degrees. It also tied for 21st among public and private universities.

Renovations Underway at York County Library in Rock Hill

The main branch of the York County Library, which is located in Old Town Rock Hill, is closed now through September 25th for major repairs. These repairs include replacement of the roof and boiler, as well as resurfacing and painting of the parking lot.

Old Town Market: Upcoming Entertainment and Activities

Old Town Market's season will continue through September 29th. Daytime hours are Wednesdays, 8-11am and Saturdays, 8am-Noon. Daytime markets primarily feature the freshest local produce in season.

Old Town Market is also open on Thursday evenings, 5-8pm. Thursday evening markets feature fresh local produce as well as plants and flowers, farm products -- such as grass-fed beef, local honey, apple butters, hot sauces -- and unique works by local artisans and crafters.

Thursday evening markets also include free musical entertainment and children’s activities, with lots of plans for the remainder of the season.
