ROCK HILL, SC – The chamber music group, the Bechtler Ensemble performs Generations: New Music Celebrating Jean Tinguely's Sculpture, “Santana” at the Gettys Art Center Courtroom, 201 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730, on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM. The concert will last approximately one hour.
The Bechtler Ensemble’s performances weave a connection between the historical and creative contents of the music to the art exhibited at the Bechtler Museum. The five musicians of the ensemble – Jill O'Neill (flute), Leo de Soto (percussion and vibraphone), Tanja Bechtler (cello), Bob Teixeira (guitar), and Taddes Korris (bass) will perform music by five composers – Ronald Keith Parks (Winthrop University), Leonard Mark Lewis (Winthrop University), John Allemeier (University of North Carolina – Charlotte), Zach Zubow (Queens University), and Craig Bove (Central Piedmont Community College), inspired Jean Tinguely’s sculpture, “Santana.” This event marks the first time the Bechtler Ensemble will perform in the Gettys Art Center Courtroom.
These performances are exciting and informative multimedia experiences. During many concerts, slides of the art from the Bechtler collection as well as images from the original setting in the Zürich home are shown while stories are told that weave a connection between the historical and creative contents of the music to the art. Tanja Bechtler, cellist for the group and the granddaughter of Hans and Bessie Bechtler, adds a mix of colorful anecdotes about growing up amidst a house full of art to the stories told during each performance. This multi-disciplinary approach enhances the experience of the audience, with concerts being described as exciting, de-stressing, fun and informative.
